Hey everyone! I'm currently a Java developer doing a QA automation internship, but I'm really eager to transition into DevOps. I'm curious if my experience in QA automation will actually help me make that jump, or if I'm just wandering off course. What skills should I focus on to prepare for a DevOps role? I'd love to hear from anyone who has made a similar transition; I'm a bit lost on what to prioritize. Thanks!

Having experience with tools like Jenkins is essential because it forms the backbone of your automation efforts. Many companies expect developers to handle testing automation these days, which integrates into the broader pipeline automation. So yes, your QA experience can definitely contribute to your DevOps journey.

Absolutely! Learning test automation is a huge plus as you move into DevOps. You'll be automating a lot of tests and processes, which is really valuable in this field.

It really depends on what you envision for your transition into DevOps. In my experience, our DevOps team includes various roles, and we have a test engineer who does similar tasks while focusing on end-to-end tests. The basics of DevOps work can vary greatly between companies, but I’d suggest focusing on AWS, Terraform, and GitHub Actions. That order of learning has worked well for many.
