Hey folks! I'm in the process of building a new PC and I'm thinking of sticking with my AMD Ryzen 9 5900X from an old build. I've also got a GeForce RTX 4090 that I picked up at a great price from a friend. I'm aiming to play games at 4K resolution and wanted to know if the 5900X is a solid choice to pair with the 4090, or if I should consider upgrading my CPU?

While I had a 5600X with a 4090 and it was okay for 1440p, I gotta say upgrading to a 9800X3D opened my eyes to how much smoother games can be at 4K. Just keep in mind that for some CPU-intensive games, you may notice the difference if you decide to upgrade later.
I've been running a 5900X with a 4090, and it's been great! I don't feel like I'm missing out compared to more recent builds. It handles 4K gaming quite well.
I think the 5900X is totally capable for most games, especially at 4K. Just curious, which games do you intend to play? That might help with more specific advice!
For 4K gaming, the 5900X should work just fine. CPU performance matters a bit less at this resolution, so you can always opt to upgrade later if you find it's lacking in certain CPU-heavy games.
Honestly, the 5900X is still a really powerful CPU. You’re already in the high-end zone, so there’s really no rush to upgrade. You might want to hold out until newer chips are released.
