Is Ray Tracing Worth It for Gaming?

I'm considering investing in a new GPU that can handle max ray tracing settings, especially for games like Cyberpunk 2077 using path tracing. I'm curious—will ray tracing significantly enhance my gaming experience, or am I just pouring money down the drain? Also, what GPU would you recommend for the best ray tracing performance at 1080p if it turns out to be worth it?

From what I’ve seen in recent research, ray tracing can transform the experience in the right games like Cyberpunk and Hitman 3. Just know that it's not an absolute necessity for gaming enjoyment, and you can often see significant improvements from better hardware or overall game optimization instead.

Path tracing can be a real performance hog. For 1080p, a 5070ti is a solid choice for path tracing, but many games still look fantastic with ray tracing on high without the full resource drain. DLSS can help a lot too! If you're considering 1440p, though, a 4070 should also work pretty well.

I run Cyberpunk on a 4070 and kick off frame generation, getting around 100fps on max settings, so there are options!

Absolutely! People were skeptical when ray tracing first came out, but the visual quality in today's games is undeniable. If you're looking for the best performance without breaking the bank, I’d suggest considering the 5070ti or the 9070xt—they both offer solid ray tracing capabilities.

Performance-wise, it depends on your budget. The 5070ti is great, but I find a 4070 can handle ray tracing just fine at 1080p without overspending.

Will it make your experience amazing? Not particularly. But it does enhance the visual beauty of many games. Titles like Cyberpunk, Control, and Alan Wake 2 really shine with ray tracing enabled. Ultimately, it boosts immersion, but the impact varies by game.

Don't forget Jedi Survivor; its implementation is impressive too!

It's truly up to personal preference. Ray tracing can bring a nice visual upgrade in games, but it might not be what everyone's looking for. Check out gameplay comparisons in Cyberpunk and other titles to see if the difference is worth it for you.
