I'm currently using Windows 10, but I'm worried about the security risks after support ends this October. I'm not very tech-savvy, so a friend suggested I try Linux Mint. I thought about dual booting, but I'm having some trouble with that, so I'm considering wiping my SSD to just install Mint. However, I've come across some compatibility issues. I use an Elgato HD60 Pro capture card, which I've heard doesn't work with Mint, and my Xbox Elite Series 2 controller might also have issues. I was attracted to Mint because it feels similar to Windows 10, but I'm open to other options that are easier to use or have better compatibility. What do you think?

Unfortunately, your Elgato won't work on any Linux distribution. For your Xbox controller, you can try using the xpadneo drivers. Also, keep in mind that the desktop environment can be customized to your liking, even if you find Mint to be user-friendly.
In addition to testing Mint on a live USB, consider exploring other distros! Sometimes one may have compatibility issues that another won't. Mint is user-friendly, but other options exist that can still be simple for beginners and might work better for your needs.
Before diving into a full installation, I recommend trying out Linux Mint via a live USB. This way you can get a feel for it without modifying your system yet.
I did try it briefly, and it seemed okay! Still figuring out how to install software, but I think I'll manage.
Are there actual reasons to install instead of just using a USB live version? Like for security or privacy?
