Hey everyone! I just found out that Linux Mint has released a Debian-based version, and I've heard it's to avoid some unpopular decisions made by Canonical. As someone who's been a lifelong Windows user, I'm thinking about making the switch to Linux. Has anyone here tried the new Debian-based Mint? What was your experience like?

I've heard great things about the Debian version, but it's more of a fallback option in case Ubuntu goes off the rails. The other Mint versions don’t follow all of Ubuntu’s latest trends, which is nice - especially with all the issues around Snap packages lately.

I think switching to Ubuntu Mint could be a good compromise! It should give you a smoother experience without jumping into the deeper end of the Debian version right away.

If you're just starting, I'd recommend sticking with the regular Mint version unless you really enjoy working with older software packages. The standard version is more user-friendly for newcomers.

Actually, Mint has been Debian-based for over 10 years now! It's not exactly new, but it definitely offers a solid alternative if you want to avoid some of the recent changes from Ubuntu. It’s worth checking out for sure!
