I'm putting together a new gaming setup and was considering using a Ryzen 7 7800X3D paired with a 5070 gaming OC. However, I've run out of budget for a monitor and am contemplating whether it's wise to downgrade to a Ryzen 7 7700 instead. I do a lot of game development and some app development, so I really need a CPU that can compile code quickly. Is there a significant performance difference between these two processors? How much speed can I expect to lose if I go with the 7700? Also, is 8 cores sufficient for my needs?

8 cores should definitely be enough for your needs, especially for game development and compiling code. You're looking at a solid performance even with the 7700. Just make sure you balance your system out with a decent monitor since that’s super important for enjoying your build!
If you're into multitasking, the 14600K could be a good option too, but keep in mind that Intel CPUs can run hot. Just make sure you have good cooling to handle it for the long haul. It really depends on how much you're willing to invest in the cooling system!
I have heard that Intel CPUs have heat issues, is it true? And if it is, can it be used for long term?
Glad to hear that, thanks 🙂
