Is There a Big Difference Between the 9700X and 9600X for Gaming?

I'm planning to upgrade my computer soon since my current build is from 2019 with a 2080 Super and a 9700KF. I'm considering getting either a 9600X or a 9700X processor and I'm really on the fence about which one to choose. For gaming, is there a noticeable difference between the two in most games? Is spending an extra $100 for the 9700X worth it? Just for context, I'm pairing it with a 9070 non-XT and I want to keep the total cost under $1400, which I can manage with the 9600X. But would I be missing out on significant performance if I go for the cheaper option?

I’d stick with the 9600X if I were you. It runs smoothly for high-refresh rate gaming at 1440p, and it’s been perfect for me!

I'd go with the 9600X! It's more than enough for gaming and could save you some cash.

Consider looking at AM5 options instead; there are some cool CPUs coming soon. Maybe find a decent deal on a used 7600 or 7600X. The prices might drop as newer models are released, and you could upgrade without much pain. With the money you save, upgrading to a 9070XT could boost your performance significantly, especially in demanding games!

That’s exactly what I did! Grabbed a 7600X with a B650M motherboard for a low price, and it works like a charm with my 5070 Ti at 1440p.

That's smart! Waiting for the next generation might give better value in the long run.

Honestly, the difference is pretty small in most games. Six cores are usually good enough, so spending the extra $100 might not be worth it. Your GPU will matter more in terms of performance.

If you plan to keep your CPU for a long time, the 9700X might be worth it for the extra cores and performance. I went for a similar upgrade a couple years back and I’m glad I did. But if you’re mostly gaming, you might not need that boost right now.

I totally get that! I upgraded my own system and I’m waiting to see what the next generation brings.

Yeah, it’s all about how long you want to keep your setup before the next upgrade.
