Is Upgrading from Ryzen 5 3600 to 5800 Worth It?

I'm considering an upgrade from my current Ryzen 5 3600 setup. I've got 32GB of 3200MHz RAM and a 6800 XT running at 1440p. With the ongoing RAM issues, I've been holding off on a larger upgrade, but now it seems like upgrading to the Ryzen 5800 X3D isn't possible since it's discontinued and I'd have to look at DDR5 options, which seem expensive. Some discussions have mentioned that the Ryzen 7 5800X isn't worth upgrading to over switching to AM5, but that doesn't seem viable either right now. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to the Ryzen 5800X, or should I stick it out with my current CPU for a few more years?

If the 5800 X3D is hard to find, consider looking for a used one. I bought mine from a local site and it's been fantastic for months. I don't plan to replace it anytime soon. Just be cautious about the second-hand market—costs can vary a lot by location!

You can snag a 5900XT with 16 cores for under $300, which is a solid deal. I'd consider upgrading to that, but honestly, sticking with your existing setup might be a good move unless you find a really good deal on something like a 9070XT. Just weigh the costs and benefits of upgrading right now.

If you go for a 5000 series CPU, you're likely to see a big performance boost. Folks are really raving about the X3D chips for gaming. If you have room in your budget, I definitely recommend grabbing a 5800 series chip. You might even think about a GPU upgrade, like getting a 9070XT or a 5070Ti—your current platform has plenty of potential! Personally, I wouldn't jump to AM5 either since you're fine where you are for now.

The 5800X is currently a great value if you're in the UK, but you should only upgrade if the price difference from a 5600X is minimal. You'll see about a 20% increase in gaming performance compared to your 3600, so it's a jump, but not massive. As for the X3D, it's known as the top dog for gaming performance—definitely misunderstood if people are saying it's not worth it!
