Hey all! I'm considering upgrading my setup and have some questions. Currently, I have a Ryzen 7 3700X with an ASUS B550-F Gaming motherboard and 64GB of Patriot Viper RAM running at 3200MHz. My daily tasks involve a lot—running WebStorm and Android Studio with multiple projects open, having 50+ Chrome tabs (don't judge), using various AI tools, Docker containers, and I do a bit of light gaming. I'm thinking of bumping up to 128GB (using 2x 64GB kits) because, why not? I'm also planning to upgrade to a Ryzen 9 5950X in the future but not looking to overclock. I want stable performance.
I have a few questions: 1. For coding and light gaming, is there a noticeable difference between 3600MHz and 3200MHz RAM? 2. Will my B550-F handle 4x32GB at 3600MHz without issues? 3. Does anyone have experience with a 5950X running 128GB? Is it stable? 4. Just for fun, any thoughts on whether Corsair or Patriot is better for this setup?
I'm not after extreme performance, just want my IDE to run smoothly when I switch to Valorant. Hope to hear your thoughts!

Honestly, upgrading to 128GB seems like overkill for what you’re doing unless you’re constantly maxing out your current RAM. If you rarely hit 64GB usage, you might not notice a difference with 128GB. Regarding 3600MHz vs 3200MHz, the real-world gains for coding and light gaming are generally minimal. Unless you have specific applications that utilize the extra speed, sticking with 3200MHz is likely fine for your needs.
I think you're being a bit ambitious with 128GB RAM for coding and gaming. For most workloads, even 64GB is plenty. Plus, if you're doing light gaming, the CPU and GPU upgrade will give you better performance than just adding more RAM. Both Corsair and Patriot have decent options, but I'd personally lean towards Corsair for reliability.
Your B550-F should handle 4x32GB at 3600MHz without any issues, but make sure you're using a good quality RAM kit that’s compatible. It’s a solid motherboard, and as long as you don’t overclock, you should be fine. Just double-check the motherboard’s QVL (Qualified Vendors List) for RAM compatibility!
LOL, you definitely don’t need 128GB just for programming! Most people get by just fine with 32GB or 64GB. I’d recommend sticking with 64GB at 3600MHz if you can. You’ll save money and still get decent performance. Just keep an eye on your RAM usage to see if you’re actually hitting those limits.
