Is Upgrading to a 14600KF Worth It?

I'm currently running a setup with a i5 12400F and a GTX 1080 Ti on a 660m Mortar motherboard with 32GB of DDR4 RAM (4x8GB at 3600MHz). I use two monitors: one 1440p at 165Hz and another at 1080p 60Hz. I'm considering upgrading to a 14600KF, as it seems like a cost-effective option while keeping my current motherboard and RAM. I've heard mixed reviews about Intel's 13th and 14th gen CPUs, and I'm not sure if the issues are still a concern. Additionally, I'd need a new CPU cooler since I'm currently using the stock one. I'm not looking to upgrade again for a couple of years, so is this a good move?

Before jumping into an upgrade, it’s worth considering what you really want from it. What are your gaming plans? If you have significant bottlenecks and want to play newer games like Expedition 33 smoothly, an upgrade makes sense, especially for medium/high settings without major slowdowns. Just ensure your motherboard is updated to support the newer CPUs.

I'm mainly looking to improve my performance for games. Expedition 33 caught my attention, and I want to ensure I can handle it, especially considering I do play a few AAA titles from time to time.

If you're looking at the 14600KF for budget reasons, it sounds like a solid choice. However, keep in mind that you might also need a GPU upgrade down the line for the latest titles. The 12900K offers great performance but at a much higher price point. As for cooling, yeah, be prepared to invest in a decent cooler regardless of which CPU you choose. Just also double-check your motherboard's BIOS for compatibility with the newer CPUs before finalizing the purchase.

That makes sense! I appreciate the pointers on the BIOS and cooling needs. I'll definitely look into that!
