I'm trying to set up a RAID5 array using three SATA SSDs on my Lenovo Thinksystem ST50 V3, which doesn't have a dedicated RAID controller. While I can create a RAID1 without issues, the RAID5 setup is problematic. When I select 'INTEL VROC SATA RAID' in the UEFI RAID Setup utility and try to create the virtual disk, my system hangs and the UEFI mouse pointer freezes. I've let it run for several hours but it never finishes. I've also read that a premium license is needed for RAID5 to function, so I'm wondering why I can still select it. Should I consider switching away from software RAID altogether? I did check in Linux and wiped any RAID headers I found, but the problem persists. Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.

Honestly, for your situation, I'd recommend ZFS too. It tends to handle these kinds of setups much better and is generally more robust.
Yeah, I've heard that VROC can be quite buggy. If you're having persistent issues with RAID5, it may be best to switch to a more stable solution like ZFS.
I suggest you avoid using Intel's RAID5 implementation—it's pretty unstable. Instead, consider using ZFS or md-raid for more reliability in your setup.
