I'm about to start my freshman year in engineering and I need a laptop for my classes. I want something affordable since I'd prefer to invest my money into building a gaming PC instead. I just need a laptop that can handle the basics for schoolwork and I'll do most of the heavy lifting on my PC. I'm planning to buy used and my budget is around $200-300 on eBay. Any recommendations for a laptop that won't struggle with CAD software?

You might want to check out ThinkPads, especially if you can run Linux on them. They can be quite capable, but keep in mind you'll probably want something with a dedicated GPU for CAD. It might be tough to find something good within your budget, though.
I've been using a Dell Latitude for my internship and it's held up pretty well. Do you think I could find a decent used one of those?
