Looking for a GPU Upgrade within Budget

Hey everyone! I got my PC built by my cousin about a year ago, but he ended up giving me a pretty old GPU. Right now, I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 paired with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-core processor. My gaming experience isn't great, and I have a 180Hz, 1440p, 27-inch monitor, which probably isn't helping the outdated GPU situation. I've heard from several people that my current GPU is really outdated. I'm looking for recommendations on a new GPU that's good for gaming. My budget is a little above £300, and I can stretch it to about £400, but I'd prefer to stay under £300. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

In your case, if you can find anything from your cousin's setup that’s better than your GTX 970, that might also work! It sounds like he might’ve just kept the better gear for himself. But definitely stick to looking for something a bit newer to get the best performance.

Depending on your budget, you can find decent used GPUs on marketplace sites, but be careful. Just make sure it’ll fit with your CPU as well as gaming needs. It’s better to aim for something that has good longevity.

Since you’re working with a budget now, I recommend the Radeon 9060 XT, which launches soon at about $349. That's roughly £300. It should handle 1440p gaming pretty well with 16GB of VRAM, which is crucial to keep your setup relevant for a few more years.

Your GPU is indeed ancient! For your specs, you might want to consider something like a 5070ti or if you’re looking at AMD, try the 9070 or 9070xt. Avoid the 5090 as it’s a bit overkill for your CPU. If you’re set on £400 max, look for a good used GTX 3080ti—it’s a solid value.
