Hey folks! I'm putting together a gaming PC, but here's the kicker: it's solely for use with my 65" OLED TV at 4K and 120 Hz. I'm all about the comfy couch gaming life with a controller, so I want to make sure this build is solid for playing story-driven games like Witcher 3 and RDR2. My goal is to enjoy stunning graphics and mods, plus I want this setup to last a long time—ideally 5+ years, and even better if it holds up for 8 years without needing upgrades. I'm overbuilding it now to ensure it can handle future titles like GTA 6 and Witcher 4 when they come out.
Here's my current parts list:
- Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- ASUS ROG ASTRAL 5090 or ASUS TUF 5090
- TRYX Panorama AIO 360
- ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E
- Kingston Fury Beast 2 x 32 GB DDR5 6400 MHz
- M2 Lexar NQ780 2TB 7000MB/s
- ASUS ROG LOKI 1200 W (80+ Titanium)
I'm wondering if there are any issues with my choices—like if a Ryzen 9 would be more future-proof. Also, I'd love a 4090 but can't find one locally. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! And please, no lectures on gaming at a desk vs. on the couch!

Your build looks awesome! I'm running a similar setup with a 4090 and custom water cooling. For the RAM, I've found that 6000 CL30 works without manual tweaks, while the 6400 might require some adjustment. Overall, this setup should serve you well for years!
Thanks for the quick reply! I wanted to avoid manual tuning, so I’ll definitely take another look at the RAM.
Everything checks out for a high-end rig! One suggestion: consider upgrading to an ATX 3.1 power supply since you're going with a 5090. It's the latest spec and could make a difference in performance and compatibility down the line.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll keep an eye out for what's available locally.
I'd definitely recommend looking for 6000 CL30 RAM. Also, I'd think twice about the motherboard. Running a second M.2 off the CPU can cut your GPU PCIe lanes, which may affect performance with a 5090. If you’re not using Thunderbolt, a B850-F motherboard might be a better choice—less complicated and just as good for gaming!
Honestly, what pointers do you need? You've picked high-end parts, so congrats on that!
Just trying to avoid costly mistakes! Appreciate any guidance.
Haha fair enough! Just wanted to make sure you're maximizing your investment!
Just a heads up, DDR5 6400 can be slower than 6000 unless you tweak it. It might be better to stick with 6000 CL30 for sure!
