Looking for DevOps Starter Tips from Experienced Engineers

Hey everyone! I'm just starting my journey into DevOps and I'm seeking advice from those who are more experienced, especially senior DevOps engineers. I've recently gained access to Coursera through my school, and I want to maximize its value. There's an overwhelming amount of content available, including certifications, courses, tools, and cloud platforms. I'm trying to establish a solid foundation without getting too scattered or wasting time on less relevant topics. If you were to start fresh today, what would your learning roadmap look like? Additionally, are there any specific Coursera courses or certifications you would recommend? Thank you in advance for your insights!

It really comes down to your work environment. Some places focus more on containerization while others emphasize automated deployment pipelines. If you're still a student and not yet employed in a DevOps role, I suggest checking out roadmap.SH for a clear progression path. It can help you visualize what to learn next without feeling lost.

I'm in my final year of college too, so I’m not sure what roles I'll be looking at. I just want to grasp the basics and then specialize based on my job. Do you think roadmap.sh might be too much for beginners?

Choose a programming language like Python, pick a cloud platform such as AWS, and figure out a pipeline that fits your needs. Make sure you have a solid grasp of networking first, then move on to Docker and Kubernetes.

I get it! As a senior, which would you prefer for a new developer—Python or Golang?

As a beginner, it's best to start with Linux, then get the basics of networking down, and finally dive into Docker. This will give you a clearer idea of what you want to focus on next.

Could you suggest a good networking course to kick things off?
