Looking for Reliable VPS Options for CI/CD on a Budget

Our team is searching for VPS instances to manage our CI/CD pipelines and maintain a private Docker registry. We're particularly interested in providers that offer high RAM and NVMe storage, as our builds have become more intensive and traditional SATA drives aren't meeting our needs anymore. It's crucial that we have strong network performance since we're transferring large images frequently.

We're also considering some of the smaller, newer providers that seem to offer better specifications at similar prices. Reliability is our top priority; any downtime could significantly disrupt our development workflow. Has anyone had recent experience with newer NVMe-focused VPS providers? Specifically, we're looking for suggestions for those that can handle high CPU load without throttling. We'd love to hear any real-world experiences to help us make an informed decision.

I recommend using AWS Spot Instances for your build servers and S3 for your image repository. Just be cautious when it comes to lower-cost providers that may use consumer-grade NVMe disks; it can be risky depending on how they handle support.

You can find budget VPS options, but make sure they don't oversell CPU cores. But fair warning, finding high-performance VPS without trade-offs may feel like hunting for unicorns!

Have you checked out Hetzner? They're worth considering for your needs.

If you can accept some delays between builds due to budget constraints, look into using spot instances since they can be a cost-effective choice. Also, consider saving your artifacts on S3 for better management.

When dealing with large image transfers, network quality is more essential than many realize. The best way to find out if a provider is reliable is to rent a VPS for a short period and run a benchmark test. Hardware is generally consistent, but keep in mind that a VPS can go down occasionally, especially if you're scaling. Consider getting 2-3 VPS instances from affordable providers like Hetzner or OVH in different locations, and test their network performance to your office for a good balance of reliability and cost.
