I've had my 1TB 970 EVO SSD for years as my boot drive, but I recently cloned it to a 2TB 990 PRO and now I'm using the EVO as extra storage. I just noticed it's showing up as a 2TB drive in Samsung Magician, even though in the device manager it still reads as 1TB. I reformatted the drive, deleted its drivers including any hidden ones, and rebooted, but it now consistently shows as 2TB. I've updated the firmware and everything looks fine according to Samsung Magician. What could be causing this discrepancy and how can I resolve it?

How exactly did you clone your drive? I had a similar issue where a drive showed more space than it had due to a direct byte-for-byte clone. Sometimes, if the cloning software doesn't handle the partition table correctly, it reports extra space. You might need to run a chkdsk /f on your partitions to fix that.
That sounds pretty amusing! It's possible that there's a firmware bug at play. Try using the H2testw app to run a write test on the drive. If it writes beyond 1TB, congratulations—it seems like you've unlocked something! If it stops at 1TB, just format the drive to reflect its actual size and use it like normal.
If it’s really passing the tests as a 2TB drive, that's great! Just don’t get too excited until you hear back on those results—better safe than sorry!
If you do find out it has 2TB of usable space, let me know—I'd be very interested in that! It’d be quite a steal if that's the case.
