Change passwords anywhere that reused the same credentials, review your email forwarding and login history, and treat the Apple account as potentially unrecoverable until Apple verifies ownership.

If the account is no longer needed and contains no important purchases or data, ask Apple whether it can be closed after the ownership issue is addressed. Don’t delete the associated email address immediately, though—it may be needed for recovery messages or proof that you control the original account.
