My GPU is Dead: Should I Repair or Replace It?

My GAMING Z TRIO GeForce RTX 3080 12GB LHR just stopped displaying after 3 years of use. I tried an older card and it works fine, so it looks like my GPU is the issue. The VGA light came on after a game crash, and since the warranty expired just last month, MSI advises bringing it to a third-party repair. I've heard some people suggest just buying a new card. What should I do?

You might want to try the oven trick to reflow the solder if you're up for it. It's a bit of a last-ditch effort, but it could work if your GPU isn't completely dead. Just find a YouTube tutorial on it. Otherwise, taking it to a pro could cost you between $100 and $300, and there's no guarantee it’ll be fixable. Consider moving on and getting a new card instead!

I did that with my old 8800 GTX years ago, but it wasn't a total black screen, just some weird colored pixels. Is this method still effective for newer GPUs?
