Hey there! I recently bought an MSI Alpha 17 laptop on Black Friday, and today I encountered some serious issues. When I tried to start it up, I got an error that one of my apps couldn't access its config file. Checking the corresponding directory, I received a message saying it was unreadable. I ran check disk, which revealed numerous errors. Since this is my boot drive, I couldn't execute any repairs while Windows was active. After trying to restart, I removed a USB that I had fortunately used for backing up some important files. Unfortunately, the OS wouldn't load, and after a couple of tries, I was met with the Automatic Repair screen, which has now been stuck on the loading animation for about 3 to 4 hours. I'm really unsure what to do next. I know forcefully shutting it down might cause more damage, but how can I know if the repair is finished, or should I wait? Any advice or suggestions for a more appropriate place to ask this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your laptop might be facing either a physical defect or file system issues. If it’s a hardware problem (which seems likely given the symptoms), you’ll need to replace the SSD and reinstall Windows. But before jumping to that, I’d suggest waiting a bit longer—for up to 12 hours. If the repair doesn't complete by then, it's probably time to give up on fixing that drive.
Good call! If it gets beyond a day with no progress, then it might be time to consider your options.
I feel your pain! Since you mentioned managing to boot from an External SSD, it indicates that the original SSD might have issues. If CrystalDiskInfo shows no bad sectors and the health is at 99%, it could be that check disk might have corrupted some system files. Just because the recovery mode is trying to repair doesn’t 100% mean there's a hardware failure—it can also be a file corruption issue that can often be resolved without replacing the drive.
Interesting point! I didn't realize file corruption could happen like that, thanks for clarifying!
No problem! Keep your backups handy just in case. Always better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I’ll stick it out and monitor the situation.
