Last week, my laptop started acting odd. It shut off when I unplugged it, so I kept it plugged in, but now it won't turn on at all. When I try to power it up, the light turns on briefly like it's starting up, but the screen stays black and then the light goes out. Of course, this happened during finals week! What should I do?

It's a Gateway Windows laptop. I tried the power button trick, but it didn't work for me.
