My Laptop’s SSD is Always Full—What Can I Do?

I've got an older Acer Nitro AN515-52, and I'm struggling with storage space. My C: drive is a 118GB SSD and my D: drive is a 1TB HDD. The SSD is always nearly full, though there's some free space on the HDD. It's mostly just the Windows OS on the SSD taking up space (about 44.4GB), along with some files from Microsoft, Nvidia, and Mozilla. Aside from buying a new laptop, is there anything I can do to free up space? I'm looking for some tips on urgent space clearing if possible. Thanks!

After 8 years of use, your laptop might have accumulated a lot of unnecessary files that cleanup software can't fully handle. Reinstalling Windows could help, but you'll likely end up in the same situation sooner or later. A long-term solution would be upgrading to at least a 512GB SSD.

That definitely makes sense, thanks for the advice!

You should definitely run a disk cleanup. Your OS, drivers, and basic apps shouldn't be consuming that much space. Just search for 'disk cleanup' in the start menu, select your C: drive, and check all the boxes to clear things out.

I already tried that, but I didn't free up any space. Does that suggest I have things on the C: drive I can remove? I can't figure out what it could be. How much space should the basics actually take?

Given that your laptop is quite old, the best move would be to upgrade your SSD. Switching to a larger m.2 SSD would really help your situation.

I think you're right. It seems like upgrading is the way to go. Thanks!
