Hey everyone! I've been using a MacBook from 2013 for the last decade, but it really struggles with programs like SketchUp and I haven't tried CAD yet. Since I'm transferring to an online interior design program, I'll need a new computer. The software I have to use includes things like Adobe Creative Cloud, Revit, and AutoCAD, and the requirements are pretty specific. They recommend Windows OS and decent hardware specs which I don't totally understand, like needing an Intel i7 CPU and a good GPU with VRAM. I'm a bit lost on what to get! I've seen some tablets for sketching, but will those even work for the required programs? Any recommendations would be super helpful!

I get that switching from Mac to Windows can feel weird, but most of those programs you need will run just fine on a Mac. If you're not into gaming, a Mac should still be able to handle your coursework. If you're looking for better bang for your buck, though, a decent Windows gaming rig will usually give you more power for less cash, just be ready for some quirks like updates and viruses. I'd also suggest checking with your school to see if they really require Windows or if you can stick with Mac!
Honestly, just look for something with a modern GPU with at least 8GB of VRAM and you should be good! A laptop with an NVIDIA 3060 or 4060 would work great. You can often find good deals on used laptops, so checking Facebook Marketplace for something affordable could really pay off. Just make sure to check the specs carefully!

Thanks for the tip about Facebook Marketplace! I hadn’t considered that. How do I know if a used computer is reliable? Do people really lie about their condition?
