New PC Won’t Boot from Old HDD – Need Help!

I just built a new PC and everything seems to be functioning well so far. However, I'm having trouble booting into Windows from my old HDD. I was planning to transfer all the data from it to my new SSD, but instead of booting into Windows, my system keeps taking me to the BIOS. My motherboard is an Asus TUF Gaming B650 Plus. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

First things first, check if your old HDD is recognized in the BIOS. If it is, you might be able to boot directly from there. Just select it as the boot drive in the BIOS settings. That could be an easy fix!

How do I do that? I'm still learning all this tech stuff.

Typically, the issue is caused by a mismatch in boot modes between your new motherboard and the old Windows installation. Make sure the boot mode in BIOS (UEFI or CSM) matches what was used when Windows was installed on your old HDD. That should help get you up and running!

Thanks! I tried that and it worked!

Please tell me you're not planning on copying the entire contents manually. You really should be cloning the drive to your new SSD. It's much cleaner and safer!

Yeah, I meant cloning it initially. I finally got it working, and it’s cloning now!

Oh no, if cloning isn't an option for you, you'll have to copy everything manually. Good luck with that!
