Problems with USB Ports on ProArt x870e Creator Motherboard in Linux

I've been using the ProArt x870e Creator motherboard, and while the driverless WiFi 7 by Mediatek works well, I'm having issues with several USB ports like USB C and USB 3.2 on the top row. They work fine on Windows, but I'm struggling to get them functioning in Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS. I heard that the problem could be related to incorrect IOMMU groups, but I'm not sure how to proceed. I'd really appreciate any guidance or fixes that might help!

Totally understand your frustration! Documenting hardware and error messages is key when troubleshooting. IOMMU issues can indeed lead to ports not functioning correctly, but it seems disabling the integrated graphics option is a solid approach. Also, check if the BIOS is up-to-date—sometimes new updates smooth things out for USB functionality too.

Good point! I’ll update the BIOS as well— couldn’t hurt to try everything.

I appreciate the reminder! I'll check for updates right after I tackle the graphics setting!

Hey there! Regarding your USB issues, it's definitely tricky with IOMMU groups. If the ports you're referring to are EC1/EC2, they might actually be linked to the integrated graphics controller of your AMD CPU. Make sure integrated graphics is disabled in the EFI settings. I had a similar motherboard setup, and once I turned off that feature, the ports worked perfectly as regular USB. Just be careful; I had a crash the first time I plugged in a hub, and it reset my EFI settings! Also, consider using that EFI tool to back up your configuration.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll check my settings and disable the integrated graphics. It sounds like a potential fix!

Wow, this might be it! I’ll give that a try. Thanks for sharing your experience!
