Recommendations for a CPU and Motherboard for Windows 11 Upgrade

Hey everyone! I'm not very tech-savvy and could really use some help. I'm looking to upgrade my current setup to be able to move from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but my specifications don't quite cut it. I primarily need my PC for work, especially for handling large documents, web surfing, Zoom meetings, and some light use of Adobe tools like Acrobat and InDesign. I occasionally dabble in Photoshop and Illustrator, but don't think I need a dedicated graphics card or extra cooling right now.

I currently have a couple of sticks of DDR4 RAM (8GB each), and I know I need to replace my CPU and motherboard to make the upgrade work. I had been considering the Intel i5-12400 with the Intel B760M-A DDR4 II motherboard, but I've heard Ryzen options like the Ryzen 5600 might be better these days. However, I'm not familiar with Ryzen yet.

Could anyone suggest a good, budget-friendly combination of CPU and motherboard that would suit my needs as of November 2025? Thanks for any advice you can share!

You might want to think about buying a prebuilt PC from companies like Dell or HP. These systems come with Windows already installed and are ready to go right out of the box. It's a solid choice for reliability, and you'll also get tech support for a year. This could save you some hassle!

If you want to stick with your DDR4 RAM, the Intel i5-12400 is similar in performance to the Ryzen 5600. Just choose whichever one is cheaper when you pair it with a motherboard. One thing to note is that the Ryzen 5600 doesn't have integrated graphics, so if that's a consideration for you, the Intel chip might be the way to go. If you're looking for a Ryzen option that's better than the i5, be aware you'll need DDR5 RAM, which is pricier right now.
