Should I be worried if my laptop is smoking?

Hey everyone, I've had my laptop for about three years now and it's been my main machine for university. I've never opened it up or changed the thermal paste since I didn't want to void the warranty. Recently, I noticed smoke coming from it a couple of times—first when I was taking it to class, and then while it was charging after rebooting from Windows to Linux. I turned it off immediately because smoke definitely can't be a good sign, right? It still powers on and seems fine otherwise. Should I be concerned? Has anyone experienced this?

Seriously, smoke is always a bad sign in electronics. If you haven’t already, back up all your important files immediately and stop using it. Better safe than sorry!

Good point! I didn’t realize that smoke could mean all sorts of issues. I’m definitely backing up my stuff now.

Listen, there’s probably a short circuit or something loose inside. Don’t ignore the smoke; it’s definitely not a good sign. Backup your files and get it to a repair shop as soon as possible.

It’s pretty concerning! Sure, it might seem to work fine, but you really shouldn’t be using it in that condition. Safety first! Get it checked out ASAP before it gets worse.

If your laptop is smoking, that's a serious issue! I recommend you stop using it right away and take it to a service center. Smoke usually indicates a malfunction that could lead to fires or further damage.

Definitely. I've seen cables burn up from overheating—it can be dangerous. Don't take any chances!

Just to be clear, laptops shouldn't be smoking under any circumstances. If you see that happening, turn it off and get it fixed. No device is worth risking your safety over!
