I'm planning to buy a new 5080 GPU next month along with an OLED monitor. I'm trying to decide between a setup that runs at 1440p using DLSS Quality settings, or a 4k setup using DLSS Performance. I haven't experienced a 4k or OLED monitor in person, so I don't have a basis for comparison. I've heard that 4k Performance offers a sharper image than 1440p Quality, but frame rates are my priority. Since it's been a while since I've owned a GPU, I'm not quite up to speed with the latest improvements in DLSS. I assume that if 4k DLSS Performance ran better than 1440p, people wouldn't bother with 1440p monitors, right?

I've got a 27-inch 1440p and a 27-inch 4k. The difference in visuals was massive for me. With my AMD setup using FSR4, the performance compared to 1440p is solid, except for some tough games like Cyberpunk where I drop back to 1440p Quality. But overall, 1440p isn't dramatically worse, just noticeably different.
I own both a 4k OLED and a 1440p ultrawide. Trust me, go for the 4k option! Others have already pointed out the advantages, so I'll just add my support to that.

I looked up some benchmarks, but I couldn't find a direct comparison between 4k DLSS Performance and 1440p DLSS Quality. Maybe DLSS Quality isn't that crucial for 1440p displays.
Just so you know, the rendering details are a bit different: 4k Performance sets the resolution at 1920x1080, while 1440p Quality is around 1707x960. This means 1440p Quality will generally give you higher FPS because of the lower internal resolution.
