Should I Choose an External Drive or an Internal Drive with an Enclosure for Backup?

I'm trying to decide between getting an external drive or an internal drive with an enclosure for backing up my files. Is there a significant difference in price and performance? Also, do brand names really matter? I'm just looking for something in the 256GB to 1TB range since it'll mainly be for backups and won't be in heavy use. Thanks for your help!

If you're just doing backups, an external drive might be easier. While internal drives paired with enclosures can save you some cash, the price difference isn't huge at lower capacities. Just keep in mind that internal drives can be more at risk due to static electricity or accidental damage. As for brands, stick with well-reviewed ones; Samsung and Crucial for SSDs, and for HDDs, go with Seagate or Western Digital. You won’t go wrong with any of those!

Thanks for the advice! Quick question: if I get an enclosure, should the drive stay in it or can I take it out when I'm not using it?
