I'm planning to replace my RTX 4060 and want the new card to last around three years without another upgrade. I'm considering the RTX 5060 Ti with 8GB of VRAM or the RX 9060 XT with 16GB. The 5060 Ti seems slightly faster and has Nvidia features such as DLSS, but I'm concerned that 8GB of VRAM may become a serious limitation in newer games. Would the 9060 XT be the better long-term choice, especially for 1440p gaming?

For gaming value, I’d choose the 9060 XT 16GB without much hesitation. Once an 8GB card runs out of VRAM, lowering settings may not fully solve the stuttering and texture problems. AMD’s upscaling has also improved considerably, so the feature gap is not as decisive as it used to be.
Before buying either one, compare the price difference with the performance gain over your RTX 4060. The 9060 XT is only around 30% faster in some comparisons, so it may not feel like a huge upgrade. If your budget allows, a Radeon 9070 or 9070 GRE could be a more substantial step up, though the GRE has 12GB of VRAM.
If you strongly prefer Nvidia features or need CUDA-related software, the 5060 Ti makes more sense, but I would avoid the 8GB model for a three-year gaming build. The 16GB version is a better fit, although its price may bring it close to faster Radeon cards.
The RX 9060 XT 16GB is the safer choice for a three-year lifespan.
