Should I Create a Game or an App for My First Project?

Hey everyone! I'm nearly 16 and super eager to dive into my first "real" project. I'm torn between making a game or an app and I really want to publish it and hopefully earn some cash, even if it's just a few bucks. On the app side, I'm considering a journal app for Android using PyCharm and Kivy, but I'm worried about standing out in a crowded market. Is it still worth making an app with so many existing ones? On the flip side, I have this cool idea for a game called 'The Darkest Light,' which lets players choose to be the hero or villain, complete with different endings. I feel like the game will be more time-consuming, but that doesn't bother me. If you were in my shoes, what project would you pick and why?

Make sure you’re not too focused on money when starting out. Learning how to develop all aspects of an application is crucial. Why not try different technologies? If you’re familiar with Kivy, that’s great! But are you sure that’s the right path for an Android app?

Fair point! I should definitely ensure I'm using the right tools. And yeah, I’ve been using Kivy for a while, so I’m hoping I have a good grip on it.

Just a heads up: your first project is likely more about learning than making money. If you create something you’re passionate about, you'll be much more motivated. That passion often leads to better projects! Right now, it seems like you're not very attached emotionally to either option. Find something you love to work on!

Wow, really great advice! I think I'm leaning more towards the game since I have more ideas for it. I appreciate the nudge to focus on what I'm truly excited about!
