Should I Just Replace My CPU or Go for a Full Upgrade?

Hey everyone! I'm new here and need some advice. My current gaming setup isn't hitting my standards for 1080p 60FPS, and I think my CPU is holding back my GPU. When I play games like the Battlefield 6 beta, it runs between 40-60fps on high settings, and my CPU usage often spikes to 80-100%, which really strains my system. My CPU is a 12th gen Intel i5-12400, and it looks like the highest CPU I can upgrade to is the i7-12700F. I'm wondering if upgrading the CPU would be a cost-effective way to boost my performance or if it's better to save up for a complete new build. I'm on a tight budget (around $100-200) and haven't replaced a CPU before, so I'm open to any suggestions or honest feedback on whether my issues might be caused by something else. Thanks!

With a BIOS update, your motherboard supports both the Intel 13th and 14th Gen CPUs. You could potentially upgrade to a more powerful chip without changing the whole setup. Just make sure you know how to handle a BIOS update first!

I appreciate the heads up! I'm a bit nervous about the BIOS update—any recommendations for affordable Intel CPUs that fit my budget?

If you can get the i7, I’d say go for it! Better to have extra power than to feel limited later on. Just keep an eye on your budget!

If swapping the CPU will only cost around $20, then it's definitely worth it! However, if it’s closer to $200, I’d suggest holding off and saving for a full upgrade, including the motherboard and RAM. Also, check the manufacturer's site for compatibility instead of relying on random benchmarks.

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea that benchmarking site wasn't reliable. Are there any budget-friendly 14th gen CPUs you'd suggest?
