I have some budget left for a gaming build and am deciding between 16GB of DDR5 memory with a 2TB SSD or 32GB of DDR5 with a 1TB SSD. The planned system uses a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and a fast NVMe drive. Would the extra RAM or additional storage be the more worthwhile upgrade? I'm also open to other suggestions if something else in the build deserves priority.

Before spending the remaining money, check the rest of the parts for value. A 1TB drive can fill quickly with modern games, but a reasonably priced PCIe 4.0 SSD is usually enough for gaming; an expensive PCIe 5.0 model won’t provide a major gaming benefit. That could free up money for 32GB of RAM or another useful upgrade.
The right choice depends on your starting point. If you already have at least 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, storage is a sensible quality-of-life upgrade for a gaming library. If you had less than 16GB, RAM would take priority. With this particular build, make sure the memory uses a two-stick kit and is configured properly for DDR5-6000.
It depends on what you need most. More storage is useful if you plan to keep a large game library installed, while more RAM helps with multitasking, such as running a game alongside a browser, voice chat, and other apps.
For a new gaming PC, I’d generally choose 32GB of RAM if the price difference is reasonable. Sixteen gigabytes can still work, but newer games and background applications are making it less comfortable. You can always add another SSD later, whereas matching memory kits can be less convenient.

I compared the prices locally and ended up leaning toward the larger SSD, since the 32GB kit costs about as much as a major graphics-card upgrade. For this build, extra storage seems more useful overall.
