Should I Stick with Crucial SSDs or Explore Other Brands?

I've been thinking about upgrading my SSDs for a while now. Currently, I have three Crucial BX500s: one 240GB that definitely needs an upgrade and two 2TB drives. I built my first PC in 2019 and have upgraded many components over time, but that 240GB SSD is still hanging around. With the recent news about Micron shutting down, I'm feeling the pressure to make a move. I'm interested in getting NVMe SSDs and some larger capacity 2.5" SSDs. I've been happy with Crucial so far, but I'm wondering whether I should continue with them or check out other options. I can provide details about my current build if needed.

I’d recommend sharing your motherboard and CPU details because knowing the PCIe revision and M.2 slots will help others give you better advice. As for sticking with Crucial, I see the benefits of having one SSD management program for firmware updates. They’re generally a solid brand, but remember that their models vary a lot in quality. For instance, the Crucial P3 isn’t as good as a T500. Look for SSDs with TLC NAND for better endurance, and consider whether you actually need DRAM cache.

Good point! I should add that I’m using an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D with a Gigabyte X570S Aorus Pro AX. I definitely didn’t know they still offer support after manufacturing.

Yeah, TLC is the way to go if you're looking for longevity. And it's always better to have a DRAM cache if you can swing it!

Honestly, I think the brand isn’t the most crucial factor; focus on the price, capacity, and speeds. I typically buy from sites like Newegg or Amazon for reliable customer service and warranty options. If you're looking to save some cash, a 500GB NVMe for your OS could really boost performance. I’m currently using a setup like that and it works wonders!

I’m not sure about using Amazon for parts, though. I've always used my local shop, and I'm starting to consider a 500GB for my main drive too, plus a 4TB for extra space since my 2TBs are getting tight.

It's great to know you're looking at a 500GB upgrade. That should definitely help with your OS and files!
