Should I Upgrade My CPU When Switching to a QHD Monitor?

I'm currently running a setup with a Ryzen 7 5800X and a 3060 Ti, paired with 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 2TB NVMe SSD. For gaming, I usually play at 1920x1080 on a 240Hz IPS panel, focusing mainly on competitive games like Apex Legends, Arena Breakout, Rust, and Rainbow Six Siege. Recently, I received a 5070 as a gift, which I feel is a bottleneck when running at 1080p. I'm considering moving to a QHD monitor because I'm struggling to spot enemies effectively due to aging. I want to upgrade my CPU slightly, but the X3D versions for AM4 builds are hard to find in my country, and moving to AM5 is out of my budget because of the high RAM prices. Switching to an Intel DDR4 motherboard seems more affordable compared to going for DDR5 with new components. Any suggestions?

You might want to look into a 14600K/F. It's a solid upgrade over the 5800X, but keep in mind that DDR4 motherboards are becoming scarce and pricier. However, if you want your GPU to reach its full potential, it's worth considering!

I’m looking at that CPU, too! The motherboards are relatively cheap here, around €100-150, but that CPU price at around €400 and RAM at €500 makes it hard to justify. Thanks for the insight!

Are you sure you have a bottleneck? My setup with a 7500F and 5070 runs great without any hiccups. Maybe the issue isn't with your CPU as much as you think!

You're gaming at 1080p, so you could definitely experience a bottleneck. It might be worth aiming for a more balanced config, especially if you want to boost performance at higher resolutions.

I get that! Many games rely heavily on CPU. If you're trying to maintain high frame rates at QHD, it's smart to eventually upgrade.

Honestly, it sounds like you're in a tricky spot. If getting an AM4 X3D CPU isn't an option, and you're not ready to move to DDR5, then the available upgrades with Intel's DDR4 might not give you the performance boost you expect. Getting that QHD monitor and seeing how it performs might be the best approach for now.

Sounds like a good plan to hold off on upgrades until you're ready for a whole new system. AM6 might be a better time for that full refresh.

Totally agree, waiting could save you some cash for a more substantial upgrade later!
