Should I Upgrade My PC’s Motherboard and CPU?

I've been dealing with some frustrating issues on my current setup, which includes a B450 MSI motherboard and an R7 3700x. Certain games freeze, requiring me to restart the PC, and I've also encountered problems with a few USB ports. I've tried everything over the past year to fix it, including updating drivers, replacing the GPU and RAM, and even switching out the PSU and adding a new M.2 SSD. It all started after an old PSU blew up, which might have damaged the motherboard. I'm considering upgrading to a B550 motherboard with an R7 5700x bundle for around £300 to reuse my DDR4 RAM, or going for a B650 with an R7 7700x for better future-proofing at around £600-700, but I'm reluctant to spend that much without being sure it will resolve my issues.

Before you make any upgrades, it's crucial to figure out the root of your current issues first. Just upgrading components won't guarantee a fix if something's damaged, like your motherboard from the PSU incident.

I've done pretty much everything else, from drivers to a new GPU. I really think the old PSU might have caused some damage because my RGB fans and some other parts are acting weird after that.

In my buddy's case, the crashing was due to his RAM. We swapped sticks between our systems and his crashed, but once he got a new 16GB stick, everything worked perfectly even with a mix of his old sticks. Maybe that's worth considering?

Thanks for the insight! Was he experiencing similar crashes?
