Should I Upgrade to 32GB of RAM for My Ryzen 7 5800X?

Hey everyone! I've got a Ryzen 7 5800X paired with two 8GB sticks of Ripjaws running at 3200 MHz. I'm planning to stick with the AM4 platform for a while, so I'm considering buying two more identical sticks to have 32GB in total (4x8GB). However, I noticed that AMD states the memory will drop to a maximum speed of 2667 MHz when using four sticks. Do you think this upgrade is worthwhile long-term, or should I just stick with my current 16GB setup? I'm hesitant to switch to a 2x16GB configuration due to budget constraints.

The speed limit you've found is what they guarantee, but that doesn't mean you can't achieve higher speeds like 3200 MHz with four sticks, especially if you're using a decent motherboard. If you have a good-quality board, it should handle it just fine!

I have the MSI Tomahawk Max, so I think I'm set there!

The videos I've seen suggest that there's not much difference in performance between 2666 MHz and 3200 MHz, so I'd be cautious. Plus, 16GB is adequate for most games currently. Why do you feel you need 32GB? Saving that cash for future upgrades might be a smarter move!

I'm not planning to upgrade for the next three years. I want to enjoy 1440p gaming with ultra settings on AAA titles, which is why I'm considering the extra RAM.

I use a 4x8GB Kingston Fury Renegade kit at 3600 MHz with an early 5800X3D, and it's been solid! Just keep in mind earlier CPU models might struggle a bit, but if yours is newer, you should be fine.

That's good to know! I might not hit those speeds, but as long as 3200 MHz does the job, I'm happy!
