Should I Upgrade to AM4 or AM5 for Better Gaming Performance?

I'm currently playing Call of Duty Black Ops 6, and I'm noticing that my i5-8600k isn't cutting it performance-wise. My setup includes an i5-8600k, a Z370 motherboard, a 2060 Super GPU, 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 1 TB NVMe SSD. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I have two choices: 1) Ryzen 5 7600 with an AM5 motherboard and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM for about $450 USD, or 2) Ryzen 7 5700X with a B550 motherboard and keeping my existing RAM for about $250 USD. While I want the cheapest yet most effective option, I also plan to upgrade my GPU to either a 6800 XT or RTX 3080, but that's another $400-450. I'm torn between going for the newer AM5 setup or sticking with a more budget-friendly AM4 option. Should I consider selling my whole build for around $550 and looking for something used instead? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Go for AM5 for sure! The Ryzen 7600 is way better than the 5700X, especially in lower frame rates, and it’s more future-proof since you're already investing in a new motherboard. It might be pricier, but think about how long you want this build to last before having to upgrade again.

It sounds like you have a decent plan, but honestly, if it were me, I would lean towards AM5. Getting a current-gen CPU will keep you relevant longer as tech changes quickly! Don’t get stuck with outdated hardware too soon.

I refreshed my build not too long ago with a B550 and Ryzen 5600, and I can tell you—it runs modern games beautifully! Although I didn’t play Call of Duty, I bet you’d see solid performance. Just remember that system balance is key.

Just make sure you consider your future GPU upgrade while making this decision. AM5 might be pricier now, but it could save you hassle in the future since you can easily just upgrade the CPU without having to change the whole motherboard again later.

If you're looking for the best bang for your buck right now, the AM4 setup might be the way to go. Ryzen 7 5700X is solid, and if you can upgrade to an X3D version later on while saving your current RAM, that'd be a smart move! Just remember, tech moves fast, so consider how long you want your new CPU to last.

Definitely check for upgrade paths! You might even score a good deal on OEM chips. I saw a 7700 recently at a decent price that could be worth considering.
