I'm currently using a Ryzen 5600X with a 3060 Ti and 16GB of DDR4 2666 MHz RAM. I've considered overclocking, but I didn't have great luck with it, so I held off. I also have a 9070 XT and I'm debating whether it's worth upgrading to AM5 right now. My main goal is to have a powerful setup that can handle 4K gaming. I've read that the 9070 XT can do this, and pairing it with an X3D chip might work well. However, I'm concerned that moving to AM5 could be a waste of money, especially with the cost of new RAM. Can AM4 actually support 4K gaming at high frame rates? Any advice would be appreciated!

I'd recommend sticking with AM4, but consider upgrading your RAM to either PC3200 or PC3600. 4K gaming is very demanding, and you might not hit 120 FPS with either setup since that's largely reliant on your GPU's performance. Check out this video for more insights.
AM4 can handle 4K gaming quite well; it's primarily GPU-bound, so you should be good there!
Thanks for the reassurance!
I think you should stick with AM4 and opt for an X3D chip to tackle the RAM issues—you don't really need DDR5 right now given the prices.
Yes, those X3D CPUs have become way too pricey. Earlier this year, they were almost $600 new!
The CPU isn't the main concern here; RAM plays a crucial role, especially at higher settings. While AM5 doesn't need to be an X3D chip for 4K, decent RAM is essential. I suggest prioritizing 32GB of at least 3200 MHz for AM4. Given your 9070 XT, you might just manage with 16GB, but you could run into limitations.
I could consider getting a 5700X3D, but the price is pretty steep. I've heard X3D chips help alleviate some RAM strain, so I’m hoping a combination of that and overclocked DDR4 RAM works.
It mainly depends on the games you play. For 4K gaming, your GPU does most of the heavy lifting compared to the CPU. I use a 5600XT with a 6950XT and can game at 1440p without issues. I'd say your current setup should handle 4K fine, so upgrading just the GPU might be enough for you.
I mostly play VR and indie titles, so I've decided to stick with AM4. It seems unnecessary to spend more money on AM5.

I don't usually play AAA games—I stick to easier titles where I can hit around 200 FPS at 1080p. I just want to avoid any significant bottleneck.
