I'm in a bit of a situation since my Asus TUF Gaming Z690-Plus D4 Wi-Fi motherboard failed. Now, I'm looking to buy a new motherboard, and I'm considering moving to a Z790 along with DDR5 6000MHz RAM. As a software developer and occasional gamer, I wonder if this upgrade would actually improve my performance, or if it's better to just go for DDR4 3600MHz RAM with a new Z690 board instead.

Now's a great time to consider upgrading to DDR5! With everything else in your setup needing a refresh, it could really boost your performance.
You might want to just replace the motherboard for now and hold off on a full upgrade. A complete overhaul could be more reasonable once prices stabilize.
LGA1700 might not be the best long-term choice, so consider a DDR4 board now. It could save you money until the DDR5 prices come down, and help you avoid larger issues down the line.
Given the current RAM prices, it might not be worth it to upgrade to DDR5 right now. DDR4 offers solid performance, especially if you're just doing casual gaming and development.
If you were happy with your Z690, just replace it and go for the DDR4 option since you’re familiar with it. It might be more cost-effective right now.
Honestly, I'm not thrilled with my current setup. I struggle with larger projects in Cursor IDE and with multiple browsers open; it really slows down.

That makes sense, but considering the GPU situation lasted over a year, I'm worried that if a similar shortage happens with DDR5, I might miss out on better performance.
