Thoughts on My New PC Build for Gaming and Work?

Hey everyone! It's been about 8 years since I last built a PC, and I think it's time for an upgrade. My current setup, a Ryzen 5 2600 with a 1060, struggles to run modern games. I plan to use this new build for both gaming and work, aiming to play games like Wukong, Elden Ring, and the upcoming GTA 6 at 1440p. I've put together a build on PCPartPicker, and here's what I'm looking at: I'm getting a CPU, motherboard, and RAM deal for $1000 CAD (about $732 USD), plus a small student discount on the SSD bringing it to $300 CAD ($219). I'm planning to overclock the 5070 myself since I'm not interested in flashy RGB—something silent and classy is more my style for the case. The total comes to around $2600 CAD ($1906 USD) before tax. Do you think this build will be good for my needs and last for another 7–10 years?

I wouldn't recommend the 5070 since the 9070 and 9070XT are out and offer much better performance. The 9070 is more than 10% faster and has more VRAM, while the XT is even better—around 12% faster than the 9070. You'd get much more bang for your buck with those options!

Definitely go for the 9070 XT instead of the 5070. It's just a smarter choice!

Wouldn't the 9070s be overkill for some of the AI/ML software I plan to use? I need something that works well with Nvidia's CUDA for my work.

That’s a good point! If CUDA is essential for your work, you might want to stick to Nvidia cards. Any good recommendations for the Radeon cards if CUDA isn't a dealbreaker?

I see the 9070s perform better, but I'm confused about the games. Are they just better in raw performance, or what specifically makes them superior? I've also seen benchmarks that compare them directly with the 5070.
