Hey everyone! I'm having a pretty frustrating issue with Outlook 365 that seems to be affecting around 20% of our users across both Windows 10 and 11 machines. This all started since last Wednesday, and I can't seem to find a solid fix. Here's what I know:
- It's mostly affecting Outlook Classic, but not all users are having problems.
- It doesn't appear to be tied to updates since our updates roll out 10 days post-Patch Tuesday.
- It's impacting various versions, including 2508 Build 19127.20192 and 2502 Build 18526.20604.
So far, I've tried several solutions:
- Running Outlook in safe mode
- Using ScanPST
- Performing an online repair install
- A full reinstall
- Switching from the current channel to the semi-annual enterprise channel
- Running System File Checker (SFC) and DISM repairs
- Manually updating Windows
What I think is going on:
- The issue isn't network or internet-related since it's not affecting everyone and we have users in different locations.
- It's also not due to group policy or permissions as nothing has changed in that regard.
I'm really stuck here! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I wonder if this could be related to your patching schedule? Your issues began just after Patch Tuesday. I’d double-check your update management to confirm what's been installed recently.
Hey! I stumbled upon an old post mentioning some issues with the Iris Xe graphics drivers around the time your problems started. Check those drivers to see if they got updated recently—it might have something to do with your crashes!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into that and see if the driver update could be the culprit.
It sounds like you might still be overlooking some add-ins. You mentioned trying safe mode, but it's a good idea to ensure there are no add-in conflicts causing these issues. Are your mailboxes stored in the cloud or on-premises?
Yeah, I did try safe mode, but I'll add that to my list of things I’ve tried. All mailboxes are in the cloud, with a few shared ones, but nothing consistently shared among all affected users.
Maybe it’s an EDR issue? We've encountered problems with Protected View that caused crashes. Trying to turn that off might help you out!
That’s worth a shot! I’ll give it a try and see if it resolves the crashing.
So, we’ve faced similar crashes since the July updates, affecting both Outlook and other Office apps. Have you checked the Application event log for any crash details? It could help pinpoint the problem.
Unfortunately, the Event Viewer didn’t show much. It just logs a generic app hang without useful details.

That's a good point! We manage patches through ThreatDown, with the delay you mentioned, so I’ll confirm what exactly was delayed to see if anything aligns.
