Upgrading Case Fans for Better Cooling in a Gaming Setup

Hey everyone! I've noticed that my temperatures are running high while gaming. I have an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X and a Zotac 3090 GPU. My case is the Montech Sky Two, which can fit a total of seven 120mm fans: two on the side for intake, two at the bottom under the GPU for intake, three on top for exhaust, and one at the back for exhaust. Currently, I have the stock Montech RX 120 fans in the following positions: two side intakes, one bottom intake, and one rear exhaust.

I'm curious about a couple of things:
1. If I switch to fans with stronger airflow, will I actually notice a significant difference? The Montech fans are rated at 59 CFM while Lian Li fans are at 61 CFM, so it doesn't seem like a huge change.
2. Would it help to add an additional exhaust fan on top to balance the airflow?

What kind of cooler are you using right now? Just swapping fans might not do much for your temps, especially if your cooler isn’t effective. Have you considered reapplying thermal paste to your CPU and GPU? That can sometimes make a noticeable difference if the paste is old or poorly applied.

I'm using a Peerless Assassin 120 SE for the CPU. Temps hit around 88-92°C during gaming.

It's hard to say exactly how much of a difference replacing your fans will make since everyone's setup is different. The specs you're mentioning are at max speed; do you usually run them at max? Keep in mind that environmental factors play a big role in your CPU and GPU temps. What really matters is that your temps stay within safe limits. If you're already at safe temps, you might not need to change anything at all.

While gaming, my CPU runs at about 88-92°C and my GPU is around 78-81°C. I've noticed the GPU fans spike to full blast when it gets close to 83°C, so I’m concerned about throttling.

Could you share a picture of your setup? Depending on the layout, you might want to consider static pressure fans over airflow fans for better cooling. While an extra 2 CFM isn't a game-changer, it can help. Do you strictly need RGB fans, and how much does noise impact your choice?

If you're sticking with Montech and want to maintain similar noise levels, check out the Montech Metal Pro fans; they push 76.2 CFM with only a slight increase in noise. Also, considering re-pasting with a good thermal compound can help. You don’t always have to spend a fortune!
