What can I do if someone used my credit card without my permission?

I recently found out that someone I know used my credit card to buy a MacBook, and now they're completely ignoring my messages and not paying me back. Is there a way to report this to the store where the purchase was made? I don't have the receipt, but I do have a bank statement showing the charge. I also want to know if there's any way to block the device so that they can't use it anymore. Any advice?

If they used your card without your go-ahead, that could be considered theft, and you might have legal avenues to explore. But if this was something you allowed and it feels more like a gift, you may need to just chalk it up to an expensive lesson learned.

It's crucial to clarify whether you authorized the transaction or not. If it was unauthorized and you had no idea about it, then you should report it to your credit card company. But if you knew and he just failed to pay you back, it’s a personal issue between you two, and not something the store can fix.

You can report the device as lost or stolen to Apple, which might help in blocking it. Since the purchase went through your credit card, that technically makes it yours. But, if he’s set it up under his own account and passwords, he’ll have control over it unless you take further action.

If you gave them permission to use your card, technically you’re on the hook for the charge. If they fail to pay you back as agreed, you could consider taking them to small claims court. Just be aware that without a solid agreement, the situation might be treated like a gift instead of a loan.
