I received a fantastic PC a few years back with some serious specs—an NVIDIA 3080 GPU, an Intel i7-2700K CPU, and 32GB of RAM. Unfortunately, I had to leave it behind when I went to Job Corps for about six months, and when I got back, my little brother had left it plugged in during a storm, which I'm pretty sure fried the motherboard. Now, I'm looking to downgrade to a solid setup that can still handle modern games, especially for a 1080p resolution. I'm wondering what CPU would work best with a 1080 Ti, and if anyone has any tips for a beginner like me since this will be my first build!

I’ve got a Ryzen 5 5600 paired with a 2060 Super, and since the 1080 Ti is better, that should work well for you too. If you can spend a little more, the 5600X offers better clock speeds and is a good value.
Just a heads up, the 2700K and 3080 are very different in terms of technology. If you meant to say a 12700K, that could be a good fit! Also, don’t forget to mention your budget when asking for recommendations.
You might want to check if your other parts are still working before throwing everything out. The storm damage could have only taken out the motherboard!
Yeah, and definitely consider getting a UPS to protect your setup from future surges. They can save your gear during storms!
