I've been enjoying Battlefield 6, but I'm hitting some major performance issues. My CPU, an Intel Core i5-13400F, gets pinned at 100% usage, which leads to stutters, dropping below 60 FPS at times, and only averaging around 85-90 FPS in busy scenarios. Lowering the graphics settings hasn't alleviated the stuttering either.
I play on a 1440p 165 Hz monitor and I'm aiming for 100+ FPS consistently at medium to high settings—though 80-90 FPS would be acceptable if stable. I'm wondering if there's a CPU upgrade path that wouldn't require me to rebuild my entire rig.
Here's my current setup:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-13400F (10 cores: 6 Performance + 4 Efficiency, no integrated GPU)
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT (16 GB GDDR6)
- Motherboard: MSI PRO B760M-A WIFI (LGA1700, DDR4, micro-ATX)
- RAM: 32 GB DDR4-3200 (2x16 GB)
- Storage: WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD, 1 TB and Crucial MX500 SATA SSD, 1 TB
- PSU: Corsair RM750x 80+ Gold, 750W
- Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow
I initially spent around $1500 on this build a couple of years back, so I'd like to keep any upgrades within a budget of $300-400. If that's not feasible, I'm open to a new build altogether. Any advice would really help!

I managed around 120 FPS on a 5700X3D paired with an RX6800 at high settings. If you're open to AMD, any of the AM5 X3D CPUs should perform well for what you're aiming for.
Maybe it's worth waiting for the next major release. In the meantime, check some benchmarks for BF6 and see which CPUs are performing best right now.
You could definitely consider upgrading to an i7 or i9 from the 13th or 14th series. Just check if all the known issues with those CPUs have been resolved, though. It might give you a better edge in games like BF6—just don't expect a massive leap in performance from your current CPU.
Moving to a 14700K is a great way to boost your performance. The 13400F is basically a revamped 12600K, so you're not getting that much of a jump. With the 14700K, you'll gain an extra two performance cores, which can really help with multitasking while gaming. Just make sure your motherboard can handle the upgrade before diving in!
Have you checked how hot your CPU gets while gaming? If you’re still using the stock cooler and hitting temps around 90°C in BF6, it might be time to upgrade your cooling solution. A quick swap could help stabilize your CPU performance. If you’re looking for a more substantial upgrade, the 14700F could be a solid choice, but prioritize your cooling first!
I’m averaging between 55-60°C with a decent cooler—those temps should definitely be manageable without throttling.

Yeah, I’ve been using the stock cooler and those temps are definitely concerning. I’ll look into getting a better cooler to see if that helps.
