What graphics card should I get to upgrade my son’s PC for his birthday?

I'm looking to upgrade my son's computer as a birthday gift. He has mentioned issues with the current AMD graphics card driver software, so I was considering getting him a new graphics card. I checked his hardware using HWINFO and found the following specs: CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X, motherboard is an ASRock B550M-C, and he currently has an ASRock RX 6600 XT GPU with 16GB of RAM (2x8GB). While I know he could use more RAM, I'm not sure if that's financially feasible right now. I've been advised that the motherboard isn't the best, and one suggestion I received was the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, which is priced around $450. Since his birthday is close to Christmas, I'm trying to keep the costs manageable. Any advice on whether this upgrade is worthwhile or if other options would be better?

The 5060 Ti is definitely a solid choice! It doesn’t have to be the Gigabyte version—there are other brands offering it at a lower price. Also, be sure to stick with 1080p for gaming. Upgrading to a higher resolution can put a lot of stress on the GPU, especially with budget constraints. Grab that GPU soon, too; prices are trending up, so it might be best to get it while it's still reasonably priced!

Thanks, that's really helpful! I'll keep an eye on the prices.

The 16GB version of the RTX 5060 Ti would definitely give your son a solid upgrade and should last him a while. If you decide to go for it, just be aware that switching from AMD to Nvidia means you'll need to uninstall the current drivers and install the new ones. It's worth watching a guide to make sure you do it right!

Upgrading to the 5060 Ti is a great move! However, make sure you consider getting it from a different manufacturer because there have been reports of thermal issues with some Gigabyte models. Regarding RAM, many games don't exceed 16GB, so unless he’s into heavy multitasking or streaming, he should be fine. If you're thinking about a RAM upgrade later, DDR4 is still relatively affordable compared to DDR5, plus you might benefit from it down the road as prices fluctuate.

What do you think about this Asus model? [link] It's on sale now and looks to have better cooling with more fans—do you think that's a plus or not?

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check that one out.
