I'm planning to upgrade my PC from an Intel i7 4790k with 16GB of DDR3 RAM and an MSI H97M-G43 motherboard, paired with an 8GB 3050 GPU, to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and an ASUS B650E motherboard with 16GB of DDR5 RAM. With the same GPU, what sort of FPS boost can I anticipate from this upgrade?

Honestly, this is practically a whole new PC rather than just an upgrade. The difference will be like going from night to day. I noticed a major FPS increase moving from a 2700X to a 5700X, and I expect you'll feel the same.

You should definitely see a big improvement, especially in multiplayer games. Some people report getting double their FPS! Just a heads-up though, you might want to consider upgrading your GPU too, as your current one could start showing its age pretty soon.

If your games are CPU-intensive, you could see a significant FPS boost. For example, when I switched from an i7 3770 to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, my FPS in Dota 2 jumped from around 70-80 to 180+. It's a game changer!

You'll probably notice a nice FPS increase—maybe around 1.5 to 2 times more. Just a tip: consider starting with one stick of DDR5 RAM. Although single-channel DDR5 isn’t awful, it’ll help you upgrade to 32GB later without diminishing speed. Just keep an eye on the RAM limits with AMD CPUs so you can optimize your performance!

Expect a night-and-day difference in performance with the new setup! Beyond just the CPU upgrade, the faster RAM will also play a huge role in boosting your FPS across the board.
