What Kinds of Jobs Do You Think AI Will Create?

I've been hearing a lot of talk about how AI will create tons of new jobs, but I'm genuinely skeptical about that. AI isn't like previous technologies; it can complete tasks on its own, which historically required multiple people. If it can do that, how will it create jobs for everyone? We also have to think about those who may not have the skills or physical ability to transition into AI-focused work. Plus, as robotics improve, many blue-collar jobs could shrink too. I'm curious to hear y'all's thoughts on this.

I think the whole concept is fascinating! New jobs will likely emerge related to AI management and oversight, but it still feels like we’re in the early stages of figuring it all out. It will be a mixed bag, with some opportunities and some losses.

True, true. And the question is, will those jobs be accessible to everyone?

I think it's unrealistic to expect AI to create a ton of jobs. It's more about maintaining a few roles that supervise AI. Most mundane tasks will be automated, meaning many people's roles in sectors like translation already prove that job security is disappearing fast.

Right? As we move more towards automation, we might find ourselves in a world where job creation is minimal.

Honestly, I'm not sold on the idea that AI will create more jobs. It looks to me like most companies will just find ways to avoid hiring more people. Sure, there might be a few new roles like 'AI overseer', but those won’t offset the jobs lost. We need to prepare for some painful transitions.

Totally agree. Everyone talks about job creation, but I see it more as keeping the few roles left under human control.

I'm really optimistic about this! I believe we'll see thousands of new jobs that we can't even imagine yet. Sure, AI and robots might take over some roles, but they'll also create brand new niches that didn't exist before. We just need to be open to the possibilities!

PragmaticPanda -

Exactly! It might be like how the internet created jobs we had no idea we needed.

Well, we could always lean into new areas that AI can't easily handle, like creative fields that require emotional intelligence. But, I'm worried that the jobs created may still require specialized skills that not everyone has, which will further alienate certain groups from the workforce.

ConcernedChipmunk -

Exactly! This often doesn't consider folks who might not have the capacity to transition into higher-skilled roles.
