What Linux Distro Should I Choose for My Old Laptop?

I have an old laptop that used to run Windows 7, but it got stuck on the "restarting the update" screen after failing to download Windows 10. I want to repurpose it and install a Linux distro. My laptop has an Intel Pentium processor (exact generation unknown), 4GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA graphics card. I plan to use it primarily for gaming (not heavy games), studying, and coding. I've heard of different distros like Nobara and Mint, but I'm not sure which one is best for my situation. If I enjoy using Linux on this laptop, I might consider putting it on my desktop too. Any recommendations?

If you're looking for something easy to use, go with Linux Mint. It's very beginner-friendly, and those with 4GB of RAM will find it runs smoothly. It's perfect for everyday tasks and gaming too, but do check ProtonDB for game compatibility. Also, consider using Wine and Lutris for any non-Steam games.

For your old laptop, I'd recommend giving MX Linux a shot, especially if you have an older NVIDIA card. It has a great installer for legacy NVIDIA cards, and the XFCE environment is lightweight and efficient. It can even run on 32-bit systems if needed. Plus, MX Linux has good support and is user-friendly, making it a solid choice for your use case.
